She used her feet to hold the banana and peeled it with her right hand. She felt like a monkey.

“It was not a good day,” Mitchell, 26, recalled this week. “Although I accomplished the mission, emotionally it was something to be reckoned with.”

Now, Mitchell can peel a banana in a less simian posture. All she has to do is place her prosthetic left arm next to the banana and think about grabbing it. The mechanical hand closes around the fruit and she’s ready to peel.

Mitchell, who lives in Ellicott City, is the fourth person — and first woman — to receive a “bionic” arm, which allows her to control parts of the device by her thoughts alone. The device, designed by physicians and engineers at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, works by detecting the movements of a chest muscle that has been rewired to the stumps of nerves that once went to her now-missing limb.

Mitchell and the first person to get a bionic arm — a power-line technician who lost both arms to a severe electric shock — will demonstrate their prostheses today at a news event in Washington. The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is part of a multi-lab effort, funded with nearly $50 million from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), to create more useful and natural artificial limbs for amputees.

As of July, 411 members of the military serving in Iraq, and 37 in Afghanistan, have suffered wounds requiring amputation of at least one limb. (How many involved losing arms could not be immediately learned.) Mitchell spent four years in the Marine Corps but did not lose her arm during military service.

Someday she hopes to upgrade to a prosthesis, still under development, that will allow her also to “feel” with an artificial hand. She is ready for it now.

Last summer, surgeons took the first step by rewiring the skin above her left breast so that when the area is stimulated by impulses from the bionic arm, the skin sends a message to the region of her brain that feels “hand.”

Future arms will also be able to perform more complicated motions. She recently spent time at the Chicago hospital trying out a prototype with six motors, not just the three of her current prosthesis. It will theoretically allow her to reach for things over her head.

But even the first-generation device “has changed my life dramatically,” she said. “I use it to help with cooking, for holding a laundry basket, for folding clothes — all kinds of daily tasks.”

For Todd A. Kuiken, 46, a physician and biomedical engineer, this is the latest step in his 20-year effort to make a better artificial arm. Over that time, his laboratory has spent about $3 million on research and development, with more than $2 million provided by the National Institutes of Health.

Simple Animation Using Math Function In ActionScript 2

Action Script 2

Programming

actionscript

as2

as3

boat

circluar

cos

elastic

fish

flaoting

Math.cos

Math.sin

motion

movement

sin

water

Everyone knows that Math function is very important in programming especially for simulation and flash games. var acc_speed = 6; // acceleration speed
var acc = 0;
var speed = 1; // normal speed

acc_counter += acc_speed;

acc = 4*Math.sin(acc_counter*Math.PI/180) // here the number 4 is the distance per move
if(acc >= 4) // we are stopping it at 4 to make it stop for a while and continue again
{
acc = 4;
}
else if(acc <= 0)
{
acc = 0;
}
mc._y += speed+acc; // we are moving the movieclip in the _y position ,instead you may try to use _rotation or _alpha ,etc

The user creates a short URL. This short URL is placed in a database. Each time a 404 (Not Found) error occurs, we will look in the database and see if the link exists. If it does, we will forward the user to the destination site.

First of all, we must create the MySQL table. Execute this SQL statment through phpMyAdmin:

CREATE TABLE `shorturls` (
`id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
`shorturl` varchar(100) NOT NULL,
`longurl` varchar(1000) NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (`id`) )
ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=29 ;

After executing that statment, you will have the database setup to store the short and long URLs.
plete! You can add formatting code to make it look nicer.

Now we must create a file called “registration.php”, and insert the following code:

<?php
// Change this if you changed the name of the database table
$tablename = "shorturls";

// Connect to MySQL Server - edit for your host, username and password (host is usually localhost)
mysql_connect("localhost", "username", "password");
// Select MySQL Database - edit for your host, username and password (host is usually localhost)
mysql_select_db("database");

// Create a value to place into the ID field
$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM $tablename");
$id = mysql_num_rows($result);
$id = $id + 1;

// Check if the user submitted a short URL or if we should generate one
if (isset($_GET['shorturl'])) {
// The user submitted the short URL, get longurl and shorturl as variables
$shorturl = $_GET['shorturl'];
$longurl = $_GET['longurl'];
}
else {
// The user did not submit a short URL - we must generate one
$rand = md5(uniqid(rand(), true)); // Generates a random number and then creates md5 hash
$shorturl = substr($rand, -32, -27); // Picks 5 characters from the md5 string

$longurl = $_GET['longurl']; // Get longurl from form
}

// Insert the values into the database
$sql = "INSERT INTO $tablename(id, shorturl, longurl) VALUES ('$id', '$shorturl', '$longurl')";
$result = mysql_query($sql);

// Check if we were sucessful
if($result){
// We were sucessful - redirect to complete.php and send the shorturl created
?>

<?php
}
else {
// We were not sucessful - redirect to fail.php
?>

<?php
}
mysql_close();
?>
?>

You can just copy and paste that code, it doesn’t need to be changed (other than your MySQL host, username and password, and if you changed the table name)

Now create a file called “create.php”. This file will contain a form that will submit the data to “registration.php”. Insert the following code:

<form action="registration.php" method="get" name="signupform">
Your short (new) URL: www.MicroURL.co.cc/ <input type="text" name="shorturl"> <b>(REQUIRED)</b>
<br>
Your long (current) URL: <input name="longurl" type="text" value="http://">
<br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Create">
</form>

You can add any formatting code to that simple form if you want, but it will work fine without.

Create a file called “process.php”. This file will check the short URL against the database to retrieve the corrosponding long URL. Insert this code:

<?php
// Change this only if you changed the name of the database table on Page 1
$tablename = "shorturls";

// Connect to MySQL Server - edit for your host, username and password (host is usually localhost)
mysql_connect("localhost", "username", "password");
// Select MySQL Database - edit for your host, username and password (host is usually localhost)
mysql_select_db("database");

$currenturl = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];
list($temp, $currenturltemp) = split('/', $currenturl);
$currenturl = $currenturltemp;

$sql = "SELECT * FROM microurl5gigs WHERE shorturl='$currenturl'";
$num_rows = mysql_num_rows($result);
$result = mysql_query($sql);

$rows = mysql_fetch_array($result);
?>

Click here if you are not redirected...
<?php
mysql_close();
?>

Almost done, now there is only one step left!

Now create a file called fail.php. This code will do, but something more helpful would be useful:
There was an error processing your request.

The last file we must create for this tutorial is “success.php”:

<?php
$shorturl = "http://" . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . $shorturl . "/" . $_GET['url'];
?>
Your shortened URL is: <?php echo '<a href="' . $shorturl . '">' . $shorturl . '';?>

Now you are almost done! All you have to do is either edit your existing HTACCESS file, or create a new one and just add this one line of code to your HTACCESS file:

ErrorDocument 404 /process.php

Your URL shortening service is now complete! You can add formatting code to make it look nicer.

Best funny drunk guy picture ever

Illusion

drunk

funny

guy

statue

talk

I think this is the best funny drunk talk ever !

Site updated

News

londoninfotech

news

Hi there, For a long time I got really busy with my other websites such as Ezzal Games . Yahoo is believed to want at least $40 per share, or about $56 billion ($37.72 billion).

After rebuffing Microsoft, Yahoo reportedly began discussing a possible Internet partnership with media conglomerate News Corp., which owns the popular MySpace Web site, and exploring an advertising partnership with Google, its biggest rival.

The company also adopted new severance packages that would protect employees in the event of a Microsoft takeover, a move the lawsuit labels as a blatant effort to drive up the cost of an acquisition.

“Yahoo’s directors cannot ‘just say no’ indefinitely to legitimate acquisition offers,” the lawsuit reads. “Likewise, Yahoo’s directors cannot pursue transactions that do not require shareholder approval for the primary purpose of making Yahoo unattractive to Microsoft.”

A Yahoo spokeswoman did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.

Microsoft has hired a proxy solicitation group to help oust the 10 members of Yahoo’s board, all of whom are up for re-election this year.

“An imminent proxy fight necessitates judicial intervention since it poses a deadline for Yahoo’s board to place shares in friendly hands,” according to the plaintiffs, who allege that Yahoo board members have placed “personal distaste for Microsoft” ahead of shareholder welfare.

“Regardless of their emotional ties to Yahoo and their desire to retain their positions as directors at the company, the Yahoo directors owe fiduciary duties to Yahoo and its shareholders,” the lawsuit states.

Copyright 2008 The Associated Press. All these little things can help drive more traffic to blogs. Here are 15 popular techniques you can use:

1. Create at least four keyword posts per day. Most of the top blogs such as Boing Boing, Daily Kos, and Instapundit (with literally tens of thousands of visitors per day) publish an average of 30 small 100-150 word posts per day according to “Secrets of the A-list Bloggers: Lots of Short Posts” by TNL.net

2. Submit to My Yahoo! When you submit your own RSS to My Yahoo it is indexed by Yahoo.

3. Submit to Google’s Reader. When you submit your own blog RSS to Google’s Reader the Google Blog Search will index your site.

4. Add a relevant link directory to your blog and trade links like a demon possessed! Although it may take more time than simply submitting to a search engine one time, this method is perhaps the best way to drive traffic to your site. Use software such as Zeus to speed up the link trading process.

5. Use ping sites like ping-o-matic. Ping your site every time you add a new post.

6. Submit your blog to traditional search engines such as AltaVista, and MSN.

7. Submit your blog to traditional directories such as DMOZ. Directories (particularly DMOZ) increase relevance with Google. DMOZ is very picky, but what do you have to lose by trying?

8. Submit to as many RSS Directories and Search Engines as possible. This is a simple but repetitive process that can be done with software such as RSS SUBMIT.

9. Comment on other blogs. Do not just leave short, lazy comments like “I agree.” Leave well thought out replies that will force readers to wonder “who wrote this?”

10. Use track backs. If there is a blog that you refer to or quote and it is highly relevant to your subject, leave a track back. It increases your link popularity and may even score a few interested readers from the linked site.

11. Go offline. Use newspaper ads, public bulletin boards, business cards, even stickers to let as many people as possible know your blog exists.

12. Add a link to your blog in your e-mail signature block.

13. Use Groups (Usenet). Find a relevant group on Google groups, Yahoo groups, MSN groups or any of the thousands of other FREE group services and find like minded people and talk with them. Make sure to use your blog URL like it is your name.

14. Use Forums. Forums are one of the best places to go for advice. Go to forums and find problems to solve. Make sure you leave your blog name, but be tactful about it; some forums get annoyed with those who selfishly drop a few links to their own site and leave.

15. Tag your website. Tagging is a new idea that has erupted across the web. Sites like Del.icio.us, Technorati and many others have a social feature that allows you to place your article under keywords or “tags” that everyone interested in that tag can see.

Firefox Trick for a Faster Browsing.

Computer & Technology

Here?s a simple firefox trick for a faster browsing.Firefox saves last 50 visited websites of a single session in the memory and you can quickly access those already visited websites next time you open your browser. It recommends that users install neither version until the issues are fixed.

The message center is something that consumers have apparently complained heavily about, and has actually been made optional in RealPlayer 11. Calling it ?advertising software,? StopBadware says that the company fails to fully disclose its intentions. However, in an interview with BetaNews, Real corporate communications head Bill Hankes called the description a stretch of the truth. The only things it ?advertises? are updates to Real software and applications: no third-party advertisements appear.

?That?s incorrect. In RealPlayer 11, you can decline the message center,? he said. ?Earlier versions were criticized by customers who said the message center was intrusive, so in this version we made it optional.?

A second charge by StopBadware was that RealPlayer 11 fails to uninstall all functionality if the user chooses to remove the software. What remains is the Rhapsody Player Engine, which allows for the playback of files encapsulated in Real?s DRM scheme. Hankes described this issue as more of an oversight on Real?s part. ?We actually learned about the issue from this report,? he said, saying that the characterization of Real deceptively installing software ?was a bit harsh.? It would be fixed in a future update.

Flash Bag ! Sometimes he will register names of famous brands, companies, or individuals. Time and again, these domain
name speculators learn the hard way that they must respect intellectual property rights. They hope that some large corporation will pay big bucks to them for the use of the company`s own (already trademarked) name. Instead, they end up with threatening letters from a law firm for their attempts at extortion.

However, you can still make money from domain names if you are sensible in your approach. Here are some suggestions on ways to profit.

1. Affiliate Programs: Use your domain name to promote an appropriate affiliate program. Either redirect to the affiliate site or write a review that links to them.

2. Informational Sites: Create content and then profit from it by earning advertising revenue through Google AdSense or a similar program.

3. Redirect to Your Own Site: Some reasons you might want to do this include preventing competitors from using a particular domain name and benefiting from searches some
users perform by domain name. (For example, if they wanted to order flowers, they might just type “flowers.com” in their web browser. You could get some traffic and sales this way.)

4. Product Sites: Create your own or sell someone else`s product appropriate to your domain name.

5. Park Your Domain Names: You might feel that your name has real potential for resale value. There are companies that will allow you to park your domain on their servers,
advertise that your name is for sale, and split advertising revenue with you.

The trick is to generate traffic for your domain name. That traffic in turn will create revenue. Then, when you go to sell your domain name, you will have a few things going for you.

First, you will have a fully developed website. A fully constructed building on a piece of land increases the value of the real estate property. Similarly, the value of your domain name is enhanced by a complete and operating website.

Second, you have traffic. Just as a shopping mall with no traffic results in no sales, so a website must have traffic to generate income.

Third, you have income. An income property, such as an apartment building, can be appraised on the basis of its income (as well as other factors). Similarly, the gross
income, net profits and cashflow of a website have value. For example, if someone offered you $1,000 for your domain name and website when it was generating $10,000 per
day in profits, you would likely laugh at him.

You really can profit from your domain name investments by adding value and properly developing your web properties.

Use Hyphens in Your Domain Name

Web Design & Graphics

Most of the desirable one-word, two-word, and three-word dot com domains are taken. However, if add plurals and hyphenated terms, there is still some gold left in the domain name game. If you find that you need or want to use a phrase or a compound word with two or more words strung together, you can use hyphens. All of the search engine robots read a hyphen as a blank space so you don?t gain or lose anything when you use hyphenated words.

The most important reason for using hyphens is readability. Your keywords are ranked by robots. Your website is read by human beings. If your domain name is theanythinggoesguide.com, it would be much easier to read it as The-anything-goes-guide.com.

A domain name as well as an online business is a long term proposition. You might have to put a bit more effort into your upfront marketing efforts, but don?t be afraid to use hyphens in your domain name. If it?s easy to read, memorable and enhances your online image, hyphens can add to the lasting appeal of your domain name.

Remember that the purpose of the domain name is to make sure that customers remember your web address when they need to get information or buy a product. Anything that is easy to read easily wins out over a long jumbled mess of letters.

Does Online Dating Work?

People

Dating Online is currently the Internets biggest craze, and its here to stay! But does it actually work?

I mean, there are tons of Dating websites, but their success with matchmaking is kept rather low key, and I found out why.

When I was searching for Online dating websites, I felt that I couldn?t trust many of the companies and that they were just trying to get money out of me. After many hours of research I was exhausted by the idea of Online Dating, it just seemed more hassle than what it was worth, but I was determined to see it through.

A lot of websites that I researched were either free or had rock bottom membership fees, and I found that these were the worst to go to, bar a few exceptions. Eventually I found a handful of websites that I could trust and were worth the money that they were charging, but it just took so long to find these trust-worthy sites.

So I signed up and begrudgingly paid the membership fee. One of the most important aspects I learnt early on is that your personal profile that you place on the dating website should be immaculate! By this I mean spend time modifying and perfecting your profile, as this is what counts the most! The last thing you want is to be receiving messages from other adults who are just not right for you, its better to make contact with another adult who is very similar to yourself, than to make contact with 10 adults who only share a few similarities.

Eventually I started meeting other people who were very compatible to myself, and as a result have made 2 great friends who are now a major part in my life and have been going out with my long-term girlfriend for over a year (I?m planning a trip to New York at Christmas, so that I can propose to her!)

Online Dating has worked wonders for me, even though it?s taken time to get their, and I Strongly believe that if you spent time looking for the right Dating website, that?s suits you and your needs then you will also have similar success. This thought gave me a brainwave.

I thought how great it would be if their was a website that had a list of all the best Dating websites, that listed these trustworthy companies, so that the biggest hassle is taken away and you can start meeting and communicating with other adults, without having to waste time looking for the best companies. So that?s what I did. I designed a website that was split into sections for American Singles, Gay personals, Jewish Singles and Christian Dating, with the best dating websites for each category.

It is full of information about Online Dating, with reviews of every Dating website and loads of interesting, related articles. There is also help on the best way of writing your personal profile.

Best of luck!!

Is There Any Such Thing As Affordable Life Insurance?

Money Making

People

Do you need affordable term life insurance? This seems to be the million-dollar question. When you want to purchase life insurance you often do not know how much you need or if there is such a thing as having too much life insurance. What constitutes affordable life insurance and how much you need is totally dependant upon your own situation.

Don’t be fooled into determining the amount of insurance you should have to what your best friend or neighbour has. Remember, every situation is unique and your needs will be unique. Your need will be determined by what you wish to see happen in the event of your death. You do have to look at the life insurance cost of the premiums and decide how much you can afford from your monthly budget. There is affordable life insurance available at very low premiums and that will help your family out in the event of your death.

When considering what affordable life insurance is needed in a family situation, you need to do a life insurance comparison. This will help you get the most affordable rates and there are countless life insurance companies able to help you in this regard.

In order to determine how much life insurance you should have, a number of factors need to be considered. For a person with family needs, these may include such things as:
?	Do you have dependants? If so, how long will they be dependant upon you?
?	Do you have children? If so, how old are they?
?	Do you want to insure your children have a post secondary education?
? Will your household income be greatly reduced upon your death? If so, how much income do you need to replace so your family maintains their standard of living?
?	How long will you need to replace your household income?
?	What taxes may be incurred upon your death?
?	Do you need to cover debt obligations such as loans or a mortgage?

When you try to determine whether or not you can afford life insurance, think about whether or not your family can afford to be without affordable life insurance.

You can find affordable term life insurance, but you need to establish exactly what you need first.

The Fitness Principles

People

Almost everywhere you go today, you are approached in some manner about health and physical fitness. The fact
that a large percentage of Americans are considered obese
has helped increase the marketing of diet, physical fitness,
and health products. You?ll be reminded of health and
fitness on TV, in magazines, on the radio, the news, at
work, almost everywhere you go you?ll see something
about physical fitness.

With all this commotion about fitness, have you joined
the team and started your path to total fitness? If not here
is a brief description of the standards of physical fitness and
what you may do about your current fitness level.

Most experts agree there are five basic components of
fitness. They are:
1)Aerobic Endurance- Your level of aerobic endurance
measures your ability to do moderately strenuous activity
over a period of time. It?s a measurement of how
efficiently your heart and lungs work together to supply
oxygen to your body during exertion and exercise. This
fitness component is also called aerobic fitness.
2) Muscular Endurance- Muscular Endurance measures
your fitness level by your ability to hold a particular position
for a sustained period of time or repeat a movement many
times. One example might be to lift a five-pound weight
20 consecutive times.
3)Muscular Strength- The ability to exert maximum force.
It is possible to have greater muscular strength in one area,
than another. For example, you may have great strength in
your arms, while lacking strength in your legs. One example
might be lifting the heaviest weight you can possibly lift.
4)Flexibility- Flexibility fitness measures the ability to move a
joint through its full range of motion or the elasticity of the
muscle. This is how limber you are.
5)Body Composition- This fitness area measures the
proportion of fat in your body as compared to your bone and
muscle. It does not refer to your weight in pounds or your shape.

If you are weak in any area or need to begin a general overall
fitness plan, there are basically three areas of exercise you should
concentrate upon to make improvements. They are stretching,
aerobic activity, and strength training. Each of these areas is very
important to your overall fitness level. Eating a healthy diet will
also contribute greatly to your overall fitness level.

Remember, it is never too late to improve your fitness level.
Regardless of your physical fitness level, your age, or the length
of time it has been since you last exercised regularly, it?s never
too late to start and maintain a good fitness routine. Your body
is designed to move. If you don?t use it, you lose it. It is just
that simple.

Huge Content Rich Websites for Profit

Money Making

Web Design & Graphics

Here is the bare bone – no hype information and a link to the website I built using these techniques. So I not going to lie to you about how much money you can make or how much I made. Simply put, people are making money with these kinds of sites, I just want a piece of the action. This article assumes you have a basic knowledge of HTML, Google Adsense, and Affiliate Advertising.

We’ve all heard the phrases “Content is King” and “If content is King, then relevance is Queen!”. So I’m going to share with you how to build a site based on these principles for profit! I built a 1000+ page content rich website in about 2 days. Check it out at http://articleupdates.com

Website Building tools:

I used DreamWeaver as my html editor. Any good html editor will work such as Frontpage. Go to download.com and search for “html editor”. Coffeecup is a very popular free editor. Basically you need a good editor that will update links site wide automatically. Give you reports on broken links, and do search and replace site wide, file specific, and etc… Also very important is a good table building capability.

For the content I pulled articles from various free content sites. As long as you adhere to the terms of fair use, you will have access to thousands of content rich articles that you can put in your own website.

Get a simple clipart cd with 150,000 royalty free images from Bestbuy for $20.

Then plug in your affiliate codes for google adsense, clickbank, and commission junction.

You don’t have to be an html expert. Just having some basic programming knowlege is enough. For example, understanding head, body, and building tables. Inserting variables and doing global changes. Any good html editor will help with that. You really need to become an expert at building tables. They are fast loading and can really make an impact on a site. If you are into css, even better!

Key Features for SEO: Keyword Rich and Relevant!

Building with SEO (search engine optimization) in mind. Use these techniques when building your site!

Niche Site: Pick a very specific topic. I chose “Making Money Online with Content Rich Sites” for this example.

Use a simple structure. Index page to “Index of Articles”. Then “Index of Articles” to each individual article page. Two levels, easy to manage, easy to spider!

Make your site surfer friendly: No hidden pages, re-directs, pop-ups, spyware, java, or scripts. Just use “.html” files with text links to full text content rich pages which are also easily spidered with useful relevant information for the visitor. Include lots of articles including a few unique pages that you have written yourself.

Now start building your basic template for all the pages on your site. How you build your template will greatly depend on what editor and tools you’ll be using. For example: most times you’ll do something like Huge Content Rich Websites for Profit. When you go to build your 1000+ page site, the editor will replace the title tag with the appropriate text dynamically.

Title Tag and Description Tags and all other meta tags should be relevant and keyword rich.

Page Title
- Use relevant keywords on each index page to the articles
- Use the article title which will have additional relevant keywords for each article page.

H1 Tags – Keyword rich and relevant ex: “Make Money Online”, “Home Based Business”

H2 Tags – Use the article title in the article pages. ex: “10 Ways To Make Money Online”

robot.txt file for spiders – just a simple two line file in your root directory
User-agent: *
Disallow:

Body text – Use content rich articles. Also use high color contrast between the text and the background so the search engine doesn’t think your trying to hide anything and penalize you. Plus it’s just plain easier to read. Use arial or verdana font.

URLs, File Names, and Directories – use the article title
ex: http://articleupdates.com/i-home-business/five-ways-to-increase-your-affiliate-sales.html

Inbound links: Set up link partners. If you can, have them place the link to your site using a keyword instead of the domain name itself. ex: Make Money Online Click Here.

Outbound links: Do the same for your link partners. Set up links using text that is relevant to their topic which should be relevant to your site but not competing if possible. If you sell computers, link to a company that sells computer desks.

Make same site links with relevant text. ex: “make money at home” will link to a page within your own site.

Make Image alt text use primary keywords. ex: “money online”

Add HTML comment tags that use primary keywords. These are not seen buy the surfer, but can be seen by search engine spiders. No one has proven this helps, but it doesn’t hurt!

Now add money making adsense and affiliate links on every page. Put them top center between the article title and article content. Adjust the colors so that is blends in with your web page content.

Google adsense will pick up the page title, h1 and h2 tags to target the ad. When someone clicks on it, you get paid!.

Once you have these basic things set up in your template, you need to use a powerful tool called Article Equalizer. With a little practice, you’ll be able to build 1000+ page websites in just a day or two. The link to Article Equalizer is http://hop.clickbank.net/?mark6188/articleeq

Another important thing you can do: Add dynamic RSS content by keyword. I’ll follow up on this in my next article.
